Korean Heritage Series_ #5 '청자 상감 국화무늬 잔과 잔받침'
(Celadon cup and saucer inlaid with flower patterns)
This gorgeous cup and saucer are made in Goryeo (918~1392, Korea),
where a country very famous for '청자Cheongja'(Celadon).
Celadons of Goryeo were exceptional, and they were one of the most popular exports of that era.
The shape of the cup looks like ten leaves gathered, and each leaf has a flower on it.
The saucer has eight leaves, and similar to the cup, it has a flower on each leaf.
The saucer has eight leaves, and similar to the cup, it has a flower on each leaf.
The artists in Goryeo, used two ways to put the flowers on the cup and saucer.
They used inlaying for the mum flower, and for the peony, they chose engraving.
On the side of recreating it in 3D, Finding the balance of heights between the inlaid(or engraved) shapes and the top-coated surface was very tricky. To make it easier to edit, I had to draw all the flowers and lines directly in Substance Painter.
